Magnolia’s 47 Day Challenge: Day 4 Debating

by Magnolia on December 18, 2009

Well, the 47 day challenge is about 5 days per week exercising at the gym and 7 day per week abstaining from wine.  So far I’ve kept up with the exercise and today was the day of figuring out how to fit in the 5th day.  I have appointments to keep with my daughter and a Christmas party to help out with at my youngest daughter’s school today.

I didn’t make it to the 6:15 a.m. spinning class.  Yikes.  Just the thought of that is too much for my menopause brain to take in.  I’m not doing so good in the “no wine for Magnolia” department either.  I had some last night, so I need to buckle down on that one.

I ran across an article yesterday that links red wine, menopause and hot flashes.  From what I got out of the article (I just skimmed it), red wine is supposed to help with hot flashes?  Maybe I was hallucinating and looking for an excuse to keep drinking red wine?  I don’t think I should read that article.  I may find myself with a dilemma on my hands.

My family (the kids, anyway) is convinced that I’m making too much out of my wine drinking.  The notion of my having a drinking problem doesn’t resonate with them.  Perhaps I am making too much of a big deal out of it, but I do know that if I drink red wine I’m much less productive.  That frustrates me.  But, who wouldn’t rather sit by a fire with a good book (or laptop) and drink a glass of red wine ? (or tea, or whatever your desire is).  Nothing makes me happier than to chill out in the evening with a glass of wine and, well, a glass of wine.

But, anyway.  I said, abstaining and so that’s what I need to do.  I’ll be back when I get the exercise thing figured out.

Dearest Magnolia,
It has been a week or so since I have been to your blog. I attempt to work-out 3-5 days a week. Neither spinning nor yoga are my thing. Keep it up you will find a routine that works for you.
I have watched a lady walk up and down my street, every day, all summer and fall and late this fall she came to the rec center where I learned she lost 99lbs with her walking. How’s that for inspiration. I’ve rattled on far to long here. God Bless You

Hey Peg,

What an inspiring story! Since I’ve gotten to the age that my joints can’t take the continual pounding of the cement from running, I’ve been a huge advocate of walking.

At different times I’ve been more faithful and it certainly can brighten your outlook just to get some sunshine on your face and oxygen to your brain.

I’ve read here and there that consistent walking for 1 hour per day 5 days per week can bring about an average 5 to 7 pounds of weight loss. That’s not so bad when you factor in that you don’t have to think about the scales or dieting. You just walk and enjoy yourself and let the weight take care of itself. :)

And you NEVER ramble on too much here. :)
